A Message From the President
|
I wonder what the man passing by is thinking. About twelve of us were across the street taking photo after photo and telling our subject "sorry, missed it, can you do it again". Did he wonder if our model was a professional stuntman, a famous actor or just some crazy guy? Across the street there were photographers standing, sitting on the curb or kneeling in the street to get the perfect angle for their shot. Had he followed us around he would have seen us braving smelly alleys to take photos of peeling paint and rust, picking up broken bottles to use as props or lying on the sidewalk to get the picture.
Our model, mentor and leader that day has been taking photographs for a long time. He is just as excited to take photos today as when he started and that enthusiasm is catching. We all experimented, gave each other encouragement, shared ideas and left with some interesting photos that we may not have even seen had we been by ourselves. Go shooting with a friend or a group and look for the unexpected angle or subject. Most importantly get out there and have some fun.

Volunteering is a two-way street; it does much more than just support our club. OPC volunteers have the unique opportunity to go behind the scenes and participate in and photograph events from vantage points not open to the public. Event photography is an opportunity to learn from each other while trying something new, having some fun, and acquiring some new skills.
Our meeting place is provided, at no cost, by Oviedo Recreation and Parks in return for the events we cover for them. We also provide photography services to local nonprofit organizations that support and promote our club. The pictures we provide are used in print and the internet with the byline "Courtesy of the Oviedo Photo Club" giving us publicity we could never buy. Why volunteer? It's a win-win situation for everyone.
Photos of the events should be uploaded to your personal Zenfolio site and then copied to the appropriate event gallery, Our website will have links to the appropriate gallery.
